At the brilliant One Of A Million festival earlier this year in Baden, one of the most talked about gigs was the Nigel Wright showcase – people were buzzing about this young indie folk singer-songwriter from the mountains of Georgia, USA. I missed the showcase, but I was determined to catch him at the next available moment. Guess what – here’s my (and your) chance!
Picked up by Berlin-based label Butterfly Collectors, Wright’s debut album Millfoil was released in March 2012 to widespread critical acclaim. Recorded at his home studio on an eight-track recorder and a couple of microphones by a then-16 year-old Wright in 2010, Millfoil’s exquisite indie folk drew heavily on Wright’s passion for the natural environment of his home – the milfoil aquatic plants of the album’s name, mist-laced streams and mountain vegetation. Watch this gorgeous Barefoot Session for a taster of the subtle beauty and evocative power of Wright’s lyrics and vocals -
