I’ve landed back in Switzerland in the middle of a heatwave, and have hit the ground running to catch up on all the stuff I’ve missed out on while I’ve been away – so many good things have been and gone, but luckily there’s still lots of greatness to come in the next few months.
First on my list of things to see is the Archive gig on Saturday night 27.08.11 at the 36th Winterthurer Musikfestwochen. I’ve already missed out on some of the stellar goodies served up by the Winterthur peeps (like Iron & Wine, my perennial favourite Anna Calvi, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion) this last week, but I’m determined to see Archive, whom I’ve loved since I picked up their debut album of trip-hop perfection Londinium in a flea market in Surry Hills, Sydney in 2000. They are playing (rather awesomely) with the full Sinfonieorchester Camerata Schweiz, plus Belgian rockers dEUS and Absynthe Minded, and the concert is understandably SOLD OUT.
Watch the frankly sinister and disturbing video for ‘Bullets’, from Archive’s most recent album Controlling Crowds:
Eek, that video always freaks me out a little. Also on the programme at the Musikfestwochen are the Manic Street Preachers + Simple Minds + Laura Jansen on Sunday 28.08.11 – not bad, hmm? I know a few people who are very excited about the Manics stepping foot on Swiss soil again. Should be a great gig too.
Back in the gig-going saddle soon, soon soon: I have to say, it’s pretty wonderful to be back home. It was great to be in Oz, but it’s true what they say – the best part about travelling is coming home.
