I’ve always had a soft spot for country music. Guess that’s because my parents indoctrinated me into The Country Way when I was a kid. Listening to it now is like sitting down with a cup of tea and putting my feet up, utterly relaxing and soothing.
Well, the latest news from Nashville is precocious 23-year-old Tennessee native Caitlin Rose. Following the release of her acclaimed debut EP Dead Flowers in 2008, Rose released her first full album, Own Side, in August 2010. With comparisons to Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, and a self-professed love of Linda Ronstadt, Rose plays along the country line but delivers her own fresh and spirited interpretation. It’s kitsch-free country music made compulsively listenable, with nary a cowboy boot or checked shirt in sight.
